Where to elope in Indiana?
The great thing about elopements is that they can be so informal you can get married just about anywhere. Monument Circle is the Iconic spot in Indianapolis. It's smack dab in the middle of everything! Not only is it the middle of Indianapolis where Meridian and Market Streets meet but it's pretty much the very center of Indiana as well! The Indy Canal Walk and White River State Park make for romantic spots to exchange vows by the water. Many couples have their first date walking there or get engaged there and then want to elope there too.
The parks and towns throughout Indiana have small and large gazebos for rent. Small Inns like The Brick Street Inn in Zionsville offer a cozy spot in front of a fireplace or outdoor garden. Right down the street in Zionsville is the Lincoln Park Gazebo. Carmel has it's parks like Coxhall Gardens or the Japanese Gardens next to City Hall.
Brown County, to the south of Indy is a popular place. Many couples enjoy hiking in Brown County State Park and want to elope there. I married a couple on Christmas morning on the deck of their rented cabin overlooking Lake Monroe. They were in their pajamas and it was perfect!
Active military and veterans will often choose one of the many memorials in Indy as the place they want to exchange vows. The USS Indianapolis Memorial on The Indy Canal Walk is a very popular spot, as the Indiana War Memorial itself. The sunset view is spectacular at the end of a long summers day!
I've married more the one couple at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway! One couple right before the race - somehow, we managed to do it on the stage, on the radio, in under 90 seconds. The LOVED it! (Got their picture taken with the mayor too!) Another couple came into town just to get married. They also wanted to check out the IMS Museum. I agreed to meet them there and marry them!
A restaurant, your favorite park, your backyard, your living room, in front of your Christmas tree and a roaring fire, these are all great places to Elope in Indiana.

I have a HUGE disclaimer when it comes to locations.
I'm putting this information together to help people decide where to get married. It is your responsibility to do all of your research about the location you choose including permission to use a space and paying any costs associated with using a space. You are only hiring me to come and perform your wedding ceremony and officiate your wedding.
Just because you are planning a "little elopement" doesn't mean that you can sneak in and use a place for free. I've been doing this for a long time and I'm doing my best to share my experiences and the information I've collected. I've spoken with vendors and people who rent venues - even little gazebos that aren't "in use at the moment" are subject to rental fees and contract. If the location is privately owned or under the management of someone who has the authority to charge for a location they can, and will, call the police if you are trespassing or assembling unlawfully. It's completely within their right to do so and they have told me stories of when they've done it. I'm including contact information for every location along with any information I have about the location that might be helpful to you.
Over the last 5 years elopements, small weddings and weddings in general have changed a lot. Many places are now charging for their space. Or that part of the canal walk now has a kids playground filled with families and may not be as romantic as it once was. A great place where I may have performed elopements 3 years ago may be completely different now.
This is your wedding. You may not have a lot of money and a nice wedding doesn't have to cost a lot of money, just do your research. Go and look at a place before you decide. Consider the location and what might happen during your wedding ceremony. Those few short moment as you exchange vows you can never get back. You wedding vows and your wedding ceremony are the beginning of your marriage. They are incredibly special moments.
There are many beautiful spaces for elopements or small weddings that charge very reasonable fees. They are worth saving up for!
